Checklist: Moving to a New Apartment in Hanoi

(by Move Home Expats – Premium Moving & Relocation Service in Hanoi)

Moving into a new apartment in Hanoi is both exciting and challenging — especially if you’re an expat adjusting to a new culture, neighborhood, and lifestyle. From choosing the right moving service to unpacking the last box, there are many steps that can feel overwhelming.

At Move Home Expats, we’ve helped hundreds of clients relocate smoothly across Vietnam. To help you stay organized, we’ve prepared this ultimate moving checklist — designed to make your move stress-free, efficient, and perfectly planned.

📅 1. Two Weeks Before Moving Day

✅ Start Planning Early

• Confirm your moving date and book a trusted moving service in Hanoi (especially during weekends or holidays).
• Inform your landlord or building management about your moving-out schedule.
• Begin sorting your belongings — decide what to keep, donate, or sell.
• Gather essential documents (lease, passports, IDs) in one folder.

💡 Pro Tip: Reliable movers like Move Home Expats can visit your current home for a free survey and estimate before the move.

📦 2. One Week Before Moving Day

✅ Prepare for Packing

• Purchase or request professional packing materials — boxes, tape, bubble wrap, stretch film.
• Label each box by room and category (Bedroom – Clothes, Kitchen – Dishes).
• Take photos of valuable items and electronics setup for easy reassembly.
• Inform your internet and utility providers to transfer or disconnect services.

💎 Move Home Expats provides full packing and labeling service using eco-friendly materials to protect your items and the environment.

🚚 3. Moving Day

✅ Stay Calm & Supervise Lightly

• Clear walkways for movers and protect elevator areas if needed.
• Check parking and loading access with building security.
• Keep pets and children safe in a quiet room.
• Double-check all boxes are sealed and labeled correctly.
• Before leaving, do a final walk-through to ensure nothing is left behind.

👉 At Move Home, our English-speaking team leader will confirm inventory, fragile items, and destination details before departure.

🏠 4. After Arriving at Your New Apartment

✅ Unpack Smartly

• Unpack essentials first: bedding, toiletries, kitchen basics.
• Check furniture placement before unwrapping larger items.
• Connect major appliances (fridge, washing machine, TV).
• Verify if anything is damaged or missing, and inform your mover immediately.

🌿 Move Home Expats offers “unpacking and cleaning service” — ensuring your home is ready to live in from the very first night.

🌼 5. After the Move

✅ Settle Into Your New Life

• Register your new address (if required for visa or work permit).
• Explore your neighborhood — local markets, gyms, cafés, and schools.
• Leave a review for your movers — it helps future expats choose reliable services.
• Celebrate your new beginning with a cozy dinner or a quiet evening in your new home!
